Being the largest University of the Country, National University has to deal with the gigantic task of exchanging and communicating information regarding the academic activities of more than 10 lac students. To perform the speedy disposal of these activities National University has set up the Computer & ICT Unit.
The main purpose of the Computer & ICT unit is to provide result processing, total ICT support of National University, Online Result Publishing, Notice & other important information publish in National University website (www.nu.edu.bd & www.nuresults.net), Development of communication system to National University and its affiliated colleges.
Major ICT activities and services of National University
Admission test result processing including previous result verification from Education board data.
Result Processing (Litho Coded OMR Based) of all the Exams of National University like Degree (Pass), Degree (Honours), Masters, Professional courses (LLB, M.Ed, B.Ed, BPED, M.Sc in Computers Science, B.Sc in Computer Science, BBA, MBA , BFA etc.
Maintain Database (Oracle, MySQL, Visual FoxPro, Clipper etc) of all students & their results.
Provide printed Registration card, Certificate, Mark sheet & Result sheet, Tabulation sheet etc directly from database.
Verification of results as per query from local & foreign institutions.
Develop & maintain a dynamic web site of National University.
Publish result on website and Mobile SMS
Maintain network of computer & ICT Unit & Internet service of National University.
Provide hardware and software supports of National University
Provide advice and physical assistance to different departments and offices of the University in matters related administration.
Ongoing ICT Projects & Other Activities:

(1) Introduction of ICT course in 10 Post-Graduate Colleges (Pilot Project)

This Pilot ICT Project is sponsored by JDCF. The objectives of this project are: (a) To introduce 100 Marks optional ICT Course for Masters Students. (b) To establish ICT Lab in 10 Post-Graduate Colleges. (c) Teacher’s training on ICT Course. (d) Repair & renovation of existing room to create physical infrastructure for ICT Lab.

(2) Provide Internet connection to affiliated Colleges & establish secured communication system between National University& affiliated Colleges. This is National University self financed project. The Objectives of this project are: (1) Provide internet connection to affiliated Colleges/ Institutions and one-year subscription fee for this connection, (2)Provide E-mail addresses, (3) Provide VPN id for communicate to National University server , (4) Provide Web based application for Marks posting and other secure communication, (5) Implement digital signature for authentic communication, (6) Make generalized web site for colleges.
After executing this project, colleges and their students can get latest information by National University web site like routine, changed exam schedule, notice, different types of forms, result etc. This project includes a secured tunnel (VPN) from colleges to National University Server. Using this, colleges can send their secure documents like tutorial & Viva marks to National University. National University can also send the emergency information including result sheet to affiliated colleges.
(3) Up gradation of National University web site:
Now National University web site is the second highest surfing site in Bangladesh. Students now get all of their results from this site. To increase the facility for students and affiliated colleges this project is proposed. This is also a National University self financed Project. After implementing this project, the web site will be viewed in both Bengali & English Language. Students can get current result as well as previous academic records using Result archive, courses contents, Syllabus, different types of forms etc. Colleges can get the tabulation sheets, different notices, news etc. Teachers can get their related information from the site. There will have a forum where students, teachers, colleges & general people can participate and make discussion about course, study plan, and other education related issues. The facility will provide some services like PSC, different embassies, foreign universities etc. to verify the National University certificates.
Other Activities:
(1) Development and Maintenance of Payroll management system Software National University Employees.
(2) Development and Maintenance of Employee Management System software.
(3) Provide One Stop Service for Certificates, Registration Card, TC etc.
(4) Arrangement of Inter College ICT competition.
(5) Training on ICT for National University officials
(6) Online Examiners/ Teachers Database System.
(6) Fiber optic backbone based LAN Establishment (NATIONAL UNIVERSITY).
(7) SMS service-alert, message, Notice of NATIONAL UNIVERSITY: Students, Colleges, teachers and other related people can get such service through their Cell Phone.
(8) Provide Internet service to on & out campus.
(9) E-Support System etc.
Future Plan
To develop ICT facilities in order to create an on-campus environment conducive to enthusiasm, innovation and enterprise, and to Nurture innovative ideas and incubate promising initiatives;
To provide training to teachers, officers and employees of the University in relevant fields of ICT;
To produce software for indigenous use;
To plan, install, maintain and develop computer networks within the University and also links to other affiliated institutions in the country as well as the Internet;

ICT based Curriculum development/modification
Web-based online application processing for college affiliation (New, renewal)
Introduce Video Conferencing System (NATIONAL UNIVERSITY+ affiliated colleges)
Introduce Compulsory ICT course in Degree (pass), Degree (Honors ) other courses.
Increase the no. of seats at the CS/CSE/EC courses
Development/Revision of syllabus for CS/CSE/ECE
Development of e-Learning Materials for Teachers including Audio-Visual contents in interactive mode.
Development of e-Learning Materials for Students including Audio-Visual contents in interactive mode.
