Vice Chancellor -Prof Dr.Harun-or-Rashid

ACADEMIC PROFILE:

Dr. Harun-or-Rashid obtained B.A (Hons) and M. A. degrees from the University of Dhaka securing first position in the former and first in first class in the later. In 1983 he did his Ph.D degree from the University of London under Commonwealth Scholarship. He carried on post- doctoral research at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, University of London during 1992-93 under Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship. In 1994 he went to Sweden under Swedish Government Scholarship to pursue diploma in Conflict Resolution at the Uppsala University.

He started his carrier as a Lecturer in Political Science, University of Chittagong, in 1979. He became Assistant Professor in 1984. He returned to the University of Dhaka as Assistant Professor in 1985. He became Associate Professor and Professor of Political Science in 1990 and 1995 respectively. Before joining the National University as Vice Chancellor he was a selection grade Professor in the University of Dhaka.

During his 33 years of teaching Dr. Rashid had the privilege to serve different bodies and institutions in many capacities including being Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka (2009-2012), Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Dhaka, for three consecutive terms (2003-2009), Senate Member, University of Dhaka (1994-2008), Syndicate Member, University of Dhaka (2009-2012), Member of Executive Committee of Chittagong University Teachers Association (1984), Member of Executive Committee of Dhaka University Teachers Association for three consecutive terms (2007-2009), Provost of A.F. Rahman Hall, University of Dhaka (1997-2001), Member of National Text Books and Curriculum Committee (1996) constituted by the Bangladesh Government to revise books in the light of the ideals and spirit of the War of Liberation, Member of Professor Shamsul Haque National Education Policy Formulation Committee (1997), General Secretary of Asiatic Society of Bangladesh (1994, 1995), Vice President of Asiatic Society of Bangladesh (2006, 2007 and 2012, 2013). He joined the National University as Vice-Chancellor on 6 March 2013.

Dr. Harun-or-Rashid is the author of 7 (seven) research books, 5 (five) learned edited books and 50 articles/ chapters published in books and journals in home and abroad. His major works include:

The Foreshadowing of Bangladesh: Bengal Muslim League and Muslim Politics, 1906-1947 (Asiatic Society, 1987), revised and enlarged edition (The University Press Limited-UPL, 2003, 2012)

Inside Bengal Politics 1936-1947: Unpublished Correspondence of Partition Leaders, (UPL, 2003).

Bangladesh: Politics, Governance and Constitutional Development, 1757-2000, (in Bangla), (New Age Publications, 2001).

Statehood Ideal of the Bengalis and the Emergence of Bangladesh, (in Bangla), (Agami Prokashoni, 2001).

Unfinished Memoirs of Bangabandhu Revisited (in Bangla), (UPL, 2013)

He also edited learned Journals which include: Social Science Review and Samajik Biggan Patrika (University of Dhaka), Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh (Humanities). He was the joint editor of State and Culture volume (Asiatic Society of Bangladesh, 2007), Assistant Editor, History of Bangladesh, 1704-1971, 3 vols (Asiatic Society of Bangladesh, 1992) and Member, Board of Editors, Banglapedia [National Encyclopedia of Bangladesh, Vol.1] (Asiatic Society of Bangladesh, 2003). He is the Chief Editor and coordinator of the newly adopted project of the Asiatic Society on the Encyclopedia of Bangladesh War of Liberation.

Dr. Harun-or-Rashid attended many international seminars and conferences held in countries including USA, UK, Sweden, The Netherlands, Japan, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, Qatar, Jordan.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) -Prof Dr. Mohammed Ashlam Bhuiyan

Professor Dr. Mohammed Ashlam Bhuiyan, a familiar educationist, joined National University as a Pro-Vice Chancellor on 11 April 2013.

He obtained his MS in Sociology of Rural Development from the Moscow University, USSR (1976). He was also educated in the USA and Germany. He did his Ph.D from Bombay University under the fellowship of Indian Council of Science Research(ICSSR). He was Chairman and Professor of Sociology at the University of Chittagong and a member of Academic Council and Senate of the same University. He was elected President of the Chittagong University Campus Club in 1994. He is a life Registered Graduate of Dhaka University. He was appointed Temporary Adviser of World Health Organization (WHO). Professor Ashlam wrote more than 100 academic papers in National and Foreign Journals. He also served the Vice Chancellor of the People’s University of Bangladesh as Vice-Chancellor.

Treasurer -Professor Md. Noman Ur Rashid

PROFILE:

Professor Md. Noman Ur Rashid obtained B.A (Hons) and M.A degree from the University of Rajshahi. He is currently holding the position of Treasurer of National University, Gazipur, Bangladesh. Before Joining the National University as Treasurer he was the Director General of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) from April 14, 2009 to January 1, 2013. In this period, he has successfully completed a good deal of things including contributing to preparation of National Education Policy & Implementing Bangladesh National Education Policy-2010 in the field level and installing 20,500 multimedia class rooms all over the country.

Professor Md. Noman Ur Rashid has participated in the following training programs:

“Procurement of goods works and services under Project Aid Jointly Organized by APD & IMED form 17th November-24th November, 1997 held in the Academy for planning and Development.
“Six week training course on Education Management under HSE Project Organized by Bangladesh Institute of Administration and Management (BIAM) from 10th April to 31st May, 1998.
“Two week advanced Training Course on Educational Management under HSE Project Organized by Bangladesh Institute of Administration and Management (BIAM) from 25th October to 7th November, 1998.
“Computer Applications under UNDP Prodoc, BGD/92/ 2009/-EMES Organized by the NAEM from 19th December to 30th, December 1999.
“Customized Overseas Study Tour of Senior Officials on Policies, Practices and issued in inclusive Education in United Kingdom.
“Visited Indonesia and Canada to know the Education Policy and Management.

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) -Prof. Dr. Hafiz Md. Hasan Babu

PROFILE:
Dr. Hafiz Md. Hasan Babu is currently working as the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of National University, Gazipur, Bangladesh. He is now on deputation from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Dhaka. He is the founder Chairman of the Department of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering, University of Dhaka. Before joining to the National University, he was a Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Dhaka. He is a former chairman of the same department.
Dr. Hafiz Md. Hasan Babu obtained his Ph.D. in VLSI CAD in 2000 from the Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan, under the Japanese Government Scholarship. He received his M.Sc. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Technical University of Brno, Czech Republic, in 1992 under the Czech Government Scholarship.  
Dr. Hasan served as a General Manager of the Information Technology & Management Information Systems Departments, Janata  Bank Limited.  He was the Information  Technology  Consultant of Health Economics Unit (HEU) and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) under the project "SSK (Shasthyo Shurokhsha Karmasuchi) and Social Health Protection Scheme". He was the Resident Information Technology Expert of the Supreme  Court  Project  Implementation  Committee, Supreme Court of Bangladesh,  Dhaka, in  Legal and Judicial Capacity Building Project, Ministry of  Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs of Bangladesh Government under the direct supervision and funding of World Bank, International Development Association (IDA), CIDA and DANIDA  under direct supervision and funding of German Financial Cooperation through KfW.
Dr. Hasan published more than a hundred research papers in reputed International Journals and International Conferences. Three of his papers got best paper awards in reputed conferences, namely inIEEE International Women in Engineering Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (WIECON-ECE 2015) held in BUET, Bangladesh; Silver Jubilee Conference on Communication Technologies & VLSI design 2009 held in Vellore, India andThe International Conference on Computer & Information Technology 2001 held in Dhaka University, Bangladesh,
Dr. Hafiz Md. Hasan Babu was awarded various prestigious scholarships such as, Japanese Government Scholarship, DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) Fellowship of Germany, Czechoslovakian Government Scholarship etc. His biography has been listed in the Who's Who in the World, 2001, USA.
Dr. Hasan was a member of Prime Minister’s ICT Task Force, Government Republic of  Bangladesh. He was an expert member of ITevaluation committee of Bangladesh Police and Bangladesh Post Office. He was a member of the evaluation committee of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP), a project of University Grants Commission of Bangladesh and Ministry of Education, Bangladesh. He is a member of Scholarship Evaluation Committee of Ministry of ICT, Bangladesh. He is a member of Different Selection Boards of Bangladesh Public Service Commission.
Dr. Hasan is a regular reviewer of reputed International Journals and International Conferences. He was the member of the organizing committee of International Conference on Computer and Information Technology 2001 (ICCIT2001), Dhaka, Bangladesh and International Conference on Computer and Information Technology 2004 (ICCIT 2004), BRAC University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He was the session chair of the International Conference on Computer and Information Technology (ICCIT2003), Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka, Bangladesh; 3rd International Conference on Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering (ICEECE 2003), Bangladesh and International Conference on Computer and Information Technology 2004 (ICCIT 2004), BRAC University, Dhaka, Bangladesh.  He was a member of the Editorial Board of The Dhaka University Journal of Sciences. He was a member of the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Multiple-Valued Logic which was held in USA in January 2003.
